A wall can look tired for years, then a few loose mortar joints or a cracked brick reveal a more urgent problem. Knowing how to repair old brickwork starts with resisting the urge to patch over what is visible. Older walls need to breathe, shed water and move slightly with the seasons. A repair that is too hard, too dense or poorly matched can trap moisture and accelerate the damage it was meant to solve.
